A Classic Take on Contemporary Style
Our brief from this customer was to create a generous glass extension with all three elevations capable of opening onto their new garden landscaping. They were also keen to incorporate the structural elements that they admired in
our more traditionally detailed orangery buildings, but the design had to assimilate their preference for a clean contemporary look. Town and Country’s solution is the perfect realisation of their dream. The detailing of sliding/folding doors achieves their wish for wide unobstructed openings enhancing a true
indoor/outdoor feeling. Gliding within recessed top and bottom tracks, the clever folding arrangement of these doors requires no intermediate framing. The six
central panels of the principal elevation part to give a stunning 4.2 metre clear opening.
The central crown ceiling and generous perimeter soffits conceal structural steel framing which has eliminated the need for internal horizontal ties. And
with the combination of clever Solar-control roof glass, their contribution of zones of natural shade has meant that the clean open lines of the roof’s interior need not be interrupted with blinds.
At night the space is every bit as stunning. The glass elevations are washed with light from discreet downlights recessed beneath the perimeter soffits, making
the roof appear to float above the highly-polished pearlescent tiles of the heated floor. Open plan to the kitchen and dining room, this stunning Town and Country building effortlessly links the house and garden, where the contemporary theme
continues with a stainless steel cascade and walk-on water feature.
